The work of pupils, and staff, does not stop at the National Curriculum. The various awards that we have achieved - including Healthy School and Eco School status, Artsmark Gold, Sportsmark and Leading Aspect awards, reflect the enthusiasm and commitment that is put into the extra-curricular side of school life here at Birchensale.

Our Eco School status indicates our awareness that we should all try to do our best for the world we live in, that the individual's actions really do matter and the Eco Team looks for new ways of making a difference. We were awarded Bronze in 2007, Silver in 2008 and are now intent on attaining our Green Flag as soon as possible.

We have a School Council made up of pupils and staff who look at ways to improve our environment, both locally and in a wider context. Each form has a representative on the School Council, via whom the pupils can put forward ideas for consideration or feed back on items discussed.

The year groups take turns in using the activity trail on different days and all children are expected to abide by the trail rules, for everyone's health and safety.
