Creation of the 'African Grasses and Insects' sculpture, now 'planted' outside the Headteacher's office window, involved a long-term project by pupils, staff and the local community. More details here.

Birchensale Library Bookworm Club - to read our latest newsletter - Click here. Our new Librarian, Mrs Willis, is looking forward to continued support with the Scholastic Book Club monthly leaflets and our annual book fairs.

Our latest Scholastic book fair took place at the end of November 2009 and we were very pleased at yet another success, with over £800 having been taken over the course of the week; this was even better than the previous year and earned us extra commission, amounting to more than £500 for our school; the new books are now on our library shelves and being enjoyed by the pupils. We are always grateful for everyone's support.

World Book Day 2010 - Thursday, 4 March - a 'quiet' affair this year while Mrs Willis is settling in; she is still getting to know the Library, staff and pupils here at Birchensale but is grateful for the warm and friendly welcome she has received since joining us upon the retirement of Mrs Widdowson.

The 2009 Draughts Challenge had 64 competitors - and the grand final took place just before the end of the Summer term, with congratulations going to Brandon of Year 7. The new academic year has seen lots of interest from Year 5 pupils and the Draughts Club is still going strong; any pupil is welcome to join.
