Damien Hirst was born in 1965 in Bristol and grew up in Leeds. He is known as being part of the ‘Young British Artists’ group that emerged in the 1990s. Year 8 pupils discovered the following: “Damien’s work differs so much because he creates in various different styles, one is more about life and death, the other more artistic, some more about religion and others about science. I do think these topics are evident throughout his pieces, with the death pieces including dead animals, religious art containing the cross, science and life showing birth and the human body and the arts including his spin and spot art paintings.”
