Applications are now open for Worcestershire’s Young Poet Laureate 2021 – 2022.

Each year, young people from across the county are invited to take part in our poetry competition by submitting two examples of their work for review by a judging panel. Submissions are judged across 3 different age categories: 8 – 11, 12 – 15 and 16 – 18, with one winner per age bracket. Of the three finalists, one young person is awarded the title of Young Poet Laureate.
The competition is run jointly by Worcestershire County Council and Severn Arts.
Through a range of events and opportunities, the programme celebrates young people’s writing talent and provides platforms for young people to make their voices heard, explore issues that matter to them and perform their work to a wide range of audiences. Previous winners have had their work published, performed live, been interviewed by local radio and commissioned to write more poetry.
