‘Birchensale Middle School lies at the heart of the community. Our caring family values ensure the best possible environment for every pupil to realise their full potential’
At Birchensale, we see history as a collective inheritance that fosters awe and wonder. History, being an enjoyable, rewarding and inclusive subject, lends itself to the natural curiosity of our children; its subject matter is vast, encompassing economic, social, political and cultural aspects that allows for extensive cross curricular links, especially in regard to reading, and promotes challenge for all. Our pupils will investigate how the past has shaped the present through a range of sources, in order to understand the key events and individuals that have impacted their lives. Our broad and balanced topics, tailored from the National Curriculum to suit our community, encourage and expand our children’s questioning; critical thinking; analysis; interpretation and cogent writing. Underpinning these skills are an ever-evolving depth of knowledge and chronological understanding.
Through high-quality history lessons, we aim to give our children first-hand experiences of the past, in order to cultivate a love for the subject that will carry throughout their lives.
