This is the start of the Birchensale journey for our Year 5 pupils. Our main aim is to help pupils to transition from first school and settle happily into middle school. From September, pupils are introduced to new subjects and encouraged to become more independent. During the first few weeks, pupils are taught in form groups for all their subjects, but are then assessed and grouped according to ability for English and Maths. Year 5 pupils access specialist facilities: conducting experiments in the Science Labs; composing and playing instruments in the Music Room; painting, drawing and sculpting in the Art Room and trying out lots of new sports. As well as this, Year 5 pupils take part Gardening and Forest School once a week and may also choose to be involved in the School Council.
